Individual Position: The individual is seated on the table with their
knees extended and their arms crossed over their chest. Practitioner Position: The practitioner is standing beside the table
with their forearm placed across the individual’s thighs and their cephalad hand
placed on the individual’s back to assist in reaching 45-degree placement of
their trunk for the test. This is to support the individual in case fixation of
position is unable to be maintained. (Note: If the individual is capable of
holding their position against gravity, then the test can be performed. This
test should not be performed on individuals’ suspected of having low back
pathology.) Description of Muscle Test: The practitioner would then place their
cephalad hand onto the individual’s elbow and request the individual to return
to the upright position against the practitioner’s mild resistance.
